HAPPY SATURN-DAY!
No, you still like Caturday? That’s okay too 🙂
When I think of Saturn, I think of when we first learned about the planets as kids, we always had a favourite. Those sterile sphere balls, that we painted and pinned to a spike or hung on a piece of a string. However you did it, we all knew someone who did 🙂 Or had a model in class.
Saturn, truth be told, whatever truth is, wasn’t my favourite. I know, terrible, right? What a horrible thing to say, as I am writing this post, celebrating Saturn on Planet week, right?! Ahhhh well, c’est la vie!
But I tell you what, I was fascinated by Saturn’s rings! (If you like it then you should have put a ring on it… <–dear, another terrible joke. Stop it Pam, just stop. it :P)
Saturn, in Greek Mythology, was an ancient Roman God. A character usually associated with: plenty, wealth, agriculture, renewal and liberation! Hooray! He was later depicted as the god of Time.
The Romans even built a temple after him called, The Temple of Saturn! I believe the Greek equivalent to this was, Cronus – the lord of the Titans, in Greek mythology! See photo below of temple. Still standing strong, Saturn, oh how resilient you are!
Who were the Titans by the way? Oh, they were GIANTS!
Titans, in Greek religion and mythology, were 12 primeval deities. The female Titans were called, Titaness. The Titans—six sons and six daughters—were the children of Uranus (Heaven) and Gaea (Earth.) So who were they already? They were: Kronos, Iapetus, Hyperion, Oceanus, Coeus, Creus, Theia, Rhea, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Tethys, and Themis.
Titans The twelve Titans, children of Uranus (Heaven) and Gê (Earth), were the group of gods immediately preceding the Olympian gods in Greek mythology. The Olympians defeated the Titans in a battle — the Titanomachy. The word ‘titanic’ refers to the great size and power of the Titans, attributes necessary to make their defeat by their children, the Olympians, more impressive. In appearance, they are thus much like the Giants, and in classical and later art it is often difficult to tell whether Titans or Giants are represented. In addition to the Titans, Uranus and Gê produced monstrous offspring: three beings each with a hundred hands, and three one-eyed giants (the Cyclopes). excerpt from, Oxford University Press 2001
Okay, okay, more about giants. I get it. Now lets get back to the story already, shall we?
The Romans later came to celebrate Saturnalia, in December, which was a time of feasting, free speech, gift-giving, among many other things. Maybe, this Saturday, we can meditate on these concepts of overflow, abundance, plenty and free speech 🙂 Just let them dance around your head and feel the vibration of those words in your body, this Saturday: Plenty, abundance, free speech, and overflow!
Anyway, I am sure you are all too familiar with this image below, with its tall standing pillars. Depicted here is the Temple of Saturn, in Capitoline Hill, Roman Forum. I plan to visit one day, and eat as much pizza and pasta as one can on such a journey. Thanks Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert, for creating the food orgasms imagery that is found in Italy! I must go!
Okay so now let’s get into Saturn, the planet! The planet itself has a sound frequency of 147.85 Hz!
It’s a very deep, hum that travels at the base of your spine, throughout your body. In fact, the spine too, has its own sound frequency, how so, you ask?
Well according to Dr. June Leslie Wieder book, Song of the Spine, she goes over how the curves of the spine, maintain a structural order, as if an energy travels and echoes throughout the curves and waves of that which you call your spine.
But, I digress.
What were we talking about again?
Oh yes, Saturn!
Okay, the astrological sign associated to this planet is…(drum roll please) —> Capricorn!!!! (Confetti thrown in air!)
According to Swiss mathematician and musicologist Hans Cousto, in his book, THE COSMIC OCTAVE: Origin of Harmony!
He discusses how Saturn encourages: reassessment, self-discipline, brings spirit into FORM, encourages STRUCTURE, and promotes commitment.
Such strong qualities of the mighty planet Saturn! I salute you!
Now there are other gas ‘giants’ in our solar system — Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune, to name a few — who also have rings but those of Saturn, why Saturn, you have without doubt, the most extraordinary rings! How beautiful you are!
I wonder, what ‘Giants’ live among you and your wonderful, magnificent rings. Maybe we will visit one day again, sometime soon 🙂 For the cosmos are within all of us.
Should you feel daring enough, or if you do already, head into ‘one of those stores’ that carry these types of things, give it a gander, will yah?
Maybe on a cold, rainy day, dark clouds, the kind where the sun hasn’t decided it even wants to peek its head through or not.
The kind of day you just sit at a coffee shop and enjoy your own company. You people watch, maybe it’s your break time, maybe you just want to enjoy your own company…Then you look at your watch (oh linear time…) and you have to go to a meeting. SO you make a dash for the door, collect all your things, but as you step outside, you realize you forgot your umbrella. Leaning against your chair.
So you run back in, and grab it before anyone notices, and head out again. But because of the distraction of losing your umbrella, you notice a store, a random store you never noticed before, in front of you as you try to open your umbrella in frustration. The rain is soaking you so…having its way with you in the meantime. That nice hair you have…or shall I say HAD, is now flat.
And maybe, just maybe, as the rain pours down on you, creating a concrete puddle around you, you decide, to hell with the meeting! They can wait! As you are so fascinated by this store across the street. So you run across the gap in the traffic and notice a glass display, by the window. And behind it, is a set of Tuning forks – titled – Planetary System.
With an itch of curiosity, you decide to step in. You ask the clerk, behind the desk, to see this magical set of tuning forks.
He brings forth the set and removes the purple velvet cloth they are wrapped in. And there, there is Saturn, Venus, Pluto, all of them! Ready for you to play with!
And so, you pick up the one, that calls to you the most, and you remember to play again.
And as you gently hold the tuning fork in your hand, you hit it, on its rubber mallet.
And the sound of the planet sings to you, you find, it speaks! But how can this be so? What words and stories are they telling you? What are their histories and what of the present and future? Knowing all too well, it exists in the NOW.
And then, when you open your eyes, because you closed them, as you held this fork near your ear or heart, to feel the vibration or heart beat of the planet travel within your body, your spine, and heart beat.
And because of you, just playing right now, you plucked a string in the cosmos! yes you did! How wonderful are you!
And on a heartbeat, YOUR HEARTBEAT, you sent a request to the planet, on a wishing star and all was heard and celebrated! And it talked back, and now you have a new Giant friend. As you converse with one another.
Ask Saturn what it knows of the qualities above, and if/how you want to incorporate that into your life. See what happens, don’t take my word for it. After all, you are your own creator.
Welcome Saturn, I see you!
