Memoirs of a Coach by Pam Q

The stories that I am personally sharing with you here are extracted from my personal coaching experiences. Some are general experiences. Some of the details have been changed in order to protect the confidentiality of my clients, as they are brave enough to share all of them with me, as I do with them. I hope you can extract the ‘essence’ of this experience and use it to the best of your ability. Thank you for being here and present. And most importantly, thank you to my clients for being my source of inspiration and requesting me the honor of helping them regain their ‘Northern Star.’

So why am I writing this letter to you, the reader? For the following reasons:

  • You can experience and put yourself in the shoes of those brave and ready to enter in the arena of coaching
  • Maybe you are a coach and there is something that resonates with you here or
  • You are looking for a coach and want to know what it is like to be with a vibrational alignment coach

I write this in hopes that whoever you are, you can extract something from here, some piece of inspiration or thought, to light that spark!

Let us Begin:

There is this certain anticipation when I meet my clients. Whether it be for the first time, or second, third, or one-hundredth co-creative interaction, there is just this eager expectation and excitement of what’s to come and what’s to be created.

It is quite the intimate, shared, and trusted space. Each and every one of my clients are different yet there are so many commonalities at the core. A humanistic pulse or drive as I like to call it.

I want to personally introduce you to Donna. She is a successful CEO to several multi-million dollar companies. I knew her from before. She asked me if I would coach her. This was ‘pre-website’ days. As most of my clients asked me to coach them because they knew me personally or they were referred to me via someone I know. When you do great work, it shows. And people want that authenticity and brilliance as part of their own lives.

Donna had a coach before but fully understood that this experience we were about to embark on would be different. That is for sure. Little did she know how true that was.

I gave her specific instructions for the day such as time and location. Things to do even prior to showing up. She wasn’t familiar with the location. I was. It was a very special place for me and my dad. It was actually ‘gifted’ to me as what some might consider Claircognizance abilities. We all experience this, when we get that impulse to write, paint, images, blocks of thoughts that get gifted to us through impulse and we sit back in amazement and wonder, ‘where did that come from?’ I had images of it as I was discovering where to take her. You see, I meet at ‘random’ inspired locations with my clients. There is something key here, they may seem random but each location demonstrates something specific to that client.

This particular client isn’t known for being on time for appointments. Meetings, teleconferences, all late! However, THIS time she was on time. She knew how important this was to her.

It was evening. Dark outside. Cold winter wind blustering outside getting every chance it can get to enter the building via its automatic doors. We were based on a semi-private setting at the grand entrance of a hotel. It felt like a palace! High ceilings, paintings, art, beautifully laid out tiles. Dim yellow golden lights on some floors that set the tone. A private lounge area in the corner overlooking the Vancouver Mountains and people with a cocktail at hand at the bar laughing among lovers and friends.

You can tell when your client first greets you how they are feeling in that moment – nervous, exhausted, excited, a bit of both, or having a lot on their mind. You can tell that even before they speak. It is written and felt all over their body and face. I notice with my clients, I am always greeted with a smile. It is this extreme joy or at times almost like a relief. Like someone popped the lid of a fizzy pop and he or she can just speak without a filter.

We sat down on comfy seats. Even though this place was semi-private it was sound checked prior to our meeting so my clients have a sense of privacy. Yet this place was alive. Although it was evening the walls could speak and they had much history.  And in this specific location there was something magical behind me that lit up the night. I won’t share that here. Sometimes, some things are meant to be felt then spoken. Even Donna mentioned ‘it looks memorizing behind you. Magical in fact.’

We began. We went through several general pleasantries at first and then she spoke. I listened. As she spoke. They come. The ideas, the exercises, the inspirational impulses, the words, the content, the course. It is as if when she speaks I am gifted with a ‘cheat sheet,’ so to speak, and know how or why she does what she does and why she does it. It is so clear to me. It screams out to me. I hold my tongue. I gently place my fingers over my mouth, like Rodin’s “The Thinker”, and not let out a whisper. I let her finish. I then begin. I gently nudge her in the direction I want her to go. A little crumb here. A little crumb there. An explosive crumb. And then a crumb. Little by little we elevate and ascend. It is not I dictating where she goes; her speech, her body language, her tone, and her vibration tell me. Her alignment dictates where she wants to go. I just have to reveal this to her. That is the art.

You can tell by her face if she ‘gets it.’ As a successful coach, you must be good at reading your clients. Donna does this thing with her face where she squints or scrunches her face squeezing it all together quickly and I know she didn’t understand something or get it. When we role-play it is for me to not ‘tell her’ but ‘show her,’ and then she gets it. She laughs out loud because she gets it! It now becomes obvious to her. And, you can tell when she holds back her tears; she is not ready to ‘go there’ yet. As a skillful coach, you have to know when to go forward, when to hit the breaks, when to ground your client, or when to pull back. You can’t have your client digest the meal all in one bite. There are some high performance coaches that like the quantum leap approach. Not a fan. If it works for them, good.

Quantum Leaping:

Here’s my analogy. Remember back in high school there was an experiment they did with frogs. With one frog, they immediately put the frog in a beaker of hot boiling water and it ‘croaks’ – PUN intended. The other frog, you place in the beaker with room temperature water and then gradually increase the temperature. They adapt. Just like I increase the temperature with my clients gradually, they grow into more of themselves. It doesn’t make it any less intense because these are intense moments. Intensity can be felt – gently.

Being a coach is being much like being a Wizard, or a Magician. You take your client’s secret or a universal law, demonstrate it to them through magic, and they revel in it! It’s authentic. It’s curious in nature. And it’s playful. Many adults have forgotten that word although I hope that is changing – Play.

Back to the Story:

As a coach, you must dare to enter inside your client’s secrets, their stories, and reveal to them what needs to be revealed and uncovered, unearthed, something about themselves to not only shed new light but also completely and utterly change them into a new human being. A new perspective of their world. Literally, they are not the same being as they entered to when they have completed the session. There is so much time prior to the meeting that goes into it such as research, focus, meditation, alignment and so much more. You have to be naturally curious about people and how the world works and know more about your client then he or she knows about themselves. You get brilliant at this by being curious about YOU!

With Donna, there was a whole range of emotions I went through with her: family life, using law of attraction, developing emotional intelligence (i.e. vibrational intelligence) leadership coaching, spiritual development, secrets of the universe, creating high performance teams, law of abundance, self discovery and exploration. People don’t know this, and here’s the secret…

Business has more to do with the emotional, internal, belief, confidence, family, and ‘fuzzy’ stuff than it has to do with the professional stuff like legal, standards, policy and procedures, etc.

Not saying you don’t need the other but time and time again, and I didn’t believe this at first either, taking care of your ‘business’ means ‘taking care of business.’  Your INNER business.

Your inner reflects your outer. Donna’s business was an EXACT vibrational reflection or vibrational match of her inner workings. Her inner belief system = her operating manual. Should you decide to deliberately change your thoughts, you create new neurological patterns in your brain known as neuroplasticity. LITERALLY, You change your thoughts, behavior, and emotions, you change your brain. You change your mindset = you change your business. Period.

This is what I do. I literally change people’s brain patterns. I change their reality. I change their circumstances. Together, we create the reality they want – DELIBERATELY. Like the true, Master Creator that they are!

Imagine. Sitting there for 2 hours. And going through all the range of emotions. And to finish with my inspiration saying to me, ‘That was really FUN.’ She gave me a great big hug and said, “I don’t care what it takes, I just want to work with you. I am so happy we found each other. I believe this is what we were meant to do together. I am already looking forward to our next session. You will give me the details right?”

Pam – (Smile.) I will. See you next week.

I gave her a personal gift. And she went on her way.

For those who read this far and all of it, I commend you.

Now, let’s do this!

#RAISEYOURVIBRATION

Be Happy. Play More. Be Curious.
